Tk 1. "Through the Looking Glass": I first heard this song on the Listen to the Band box set, and I liked it right away. Not one of my favorites, but it's upbeat and Micky's voice sounds great! His singing is starting to get stronger at this point in time, and this song really shows it.

Tk 2. "Don't Listen to Linda": I can't stand either version of this song. The horns and strings are very pretty in this version, but it's just to slow and sappy for my tastes.

Tk 3. "I Won't Be The Same Without Her": Mike sounds GREAT on this one!! I LOVE the beat! One of my faves.

Tk 4. "Just A Game": Micky's voice sounds great but the song kind of sounds unfinished. Interesting beat!

Tk 5. "Me Without You": Yick. Just doesn't hit me right.

Tk 6. "Don't Wait for Me": I don't really like this one very much, but Mike's voice sounds terrific! His singing is improving here too!

Tk 7. "You and I": I like the Justus song of the same title. The very beginning is prettty decent music-wise.

Tk 8. "While I Cry": I love this one! Mike sounds absolutely terrific and it's such a lovely song, especially the guitar.

Tk 9. "Teardrop City": I don't think this sounds like Clarksville at all. I love it, especially the drum sequence in the chorus. /me ducks flying objects

Tk 10. "The Girl I Left Behind Me": Too sappy, although the title line sounds kinda pretty the way it's sung.

Tk 11. "A Man Without A Dream": I actually like this one. Not a lot, mind you, but it's pretty. I like the horns.

Tk 12. "Shorty Blackwell": I'm still deciding if I like this or not. It's an interesting song. Coco has SUCH a lovely voice! And she blends with Micky very well. They sound great together. The piano solo is very pretty. Kudos to Shorty Rogers. I like the way he utilizes all the instruments -- the arrangement is GREAT!! I like the ending, esp. the horns -- very cool!

BONUS TRACKS

Tk 13. "Someday Man": I like this one! /me ducks more projectiles I love the horns! One of the few Davy songs I really like singing along with (even on "It's Not Too Late" I sing Micky's part instead)

Tk 14. "Carlisle Wheeling": Another I first heard on the L2B Box Set. I liked it right away. I love the music. There's something of a country twang to it that usually I don't like, but here, I love it. Mike's singing is terrific!

Tk 15. "Rosemarie": Great horns. It doesn't sound like Micky, tho. Maybe it's the way he's singing. The sound of the singing + horns at the very end is interesting (but great!)

Tk 16. "Smile": Yick. I can't listen to it, period. You've heard of love at first sight? Well, this is hate at first listen. Yicky sappy Davy love song.

Tk 17. "St. Matthew": Also first heard on L2B. One of my top faves. I like the L2B version a little better -- less electronic effects used on Mike's voice. I like the lyrics, especially "She calls herself St. Matthew when she is on the run" (but I don't really dwell on the meaning of the lyrics -- I just like the way they sound). The music is terrific, and I love that sound at the beginning (kinda like those commercials for the cappucino without a machine -- am I making sense here?). I was listening to this on my walkman when I was heading to percussion class today (and my grip is getting better -- slowly, but surely!). :-)

Tk 18. "Me Without You": I don't like either version. The beginning of this version is a cool tho.

Tk 19. "Through the Looking Glass": I can't really tell the difference between the two versions. I like both.

OVERALL: I like this album. It's not one of my favorites, it's kinda down there by Changes, but there are some songs that stand out a lot and that I love. Those are: "While I Cry", "Teardrop City", "Through the Looking Glass", "Someday Man", "Carlisle Wheeling" and "St. Matthew". The individualistic approach (ie, they aren't a group, they're three guys releasing an album together) is VERY evident here, and unlike on Monkees Present it really ruins the way the album sounds. Monkees Present, while also individualistic, is a bit more coherent, to my ear. I dunno why, that's just the way it sounds to me.
